How Search Works
Hybrid ranking, what matchType does, what gets indexed, and why search ranks rather than enumerates.
Search combines keyword matching with semantic similarity and returns the best matches first. It is designed to find the right section, not to list every section in a code.
curl -X POST https://api.lexbharat.example/api/v1/us/statutes/search \
-H "Authorization: Bearer lb_key_..." \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{ "query": "civil rights under color of law", "corpusType": "USC" }'
- Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT are supported.
- NEAR with a distance such as ~5 finds terms close together.
- matchType controls how strictly terms must match.
- Searching for a citation string? Use resolve instead of search.
To enumerate a code, walk the hierarchy with the divisions endpoint rather than paging search results.
